Sorry this happened to you, Randy. My mom had the condition, also. One eye had a silver disk in the center, Mom said. When she started having trouble in her other eye, my parents and my brother were living across the street from us in Lawrenceville. Mom had some experimental treatments at the Emory Low Vision Clinic — not effective but one treatment burned a hole in Mom’s retina, leaving a black spot. Mom preferred the silver disk.
Thanks, Ann. Getting diagnosed correctly took almost three years (while the disease advanced), though I saw five eye doctors including two retina specialists. I suggested AMD to one of them and he brushed it away. Finally through a friend a tried a new ophthalmologist. He said immediately on checking out the scans, "This looks like AMD to me. I'm not qualified to diagnose it but I'm sending you to a retina guy who can." This happened fast because both of them could see how long it had been growing.
I have the diagnosis, as well, but mine has not progressed. My current retina specialist said I will probably never have any problems. I get annual checkups and take eye vitamins.
It’s horrible that you had such a struggle getting a proper diagnosis. God bless you.
Thanks! Has your mom gotten used to them? I don't think anyone does, and there's a pretty high dropout rate after the first round -- despite the consequences of quitting.
Sending a warm hug- I’m sorry you are having to endure this….💜
Rough stuff, Randy. I admire your courage in facing what has happened to you and, of course, writing about it.

I hope the injections are improving your vision.
